School Meals

Children may have a school meal, bring a packed lunch or go home at lunchtime. If your child does stay for school dinners, the full amount should be paid via School Grid in advance. School meals are provided by HCL.

If you are eligible for free school meals, this entitlement can only start once Online Free School Meals have officially notified you.

If your child goes home for lunch, they will leave via the main entrance and should return this way by the end of lunchtime. Please ask your child's teacher or at Reception for the time.

The current cost of a school meal is £2.45 for KS2.

Meals are FREE for all children in Reception and KS1 as they are entitled to Universal Free School Meals.

Packed Lunches

Lunch Time at Tany’s Dell is an important part of the day. A nutritionally balanced lunch is vital for children’s concentration, energy and general wellbeing. School dinners have seen a radical improvement over the last few years thanks to TV chef Jamie Oliver. Our school is no exception and works hard to ensure every child who receives a school dinner has a nutritionally balanced, healthy and delicious meal.

For those children choosing to bring a packed lunch to school, we have sourced the following information from the NHS website in order to make sure their lunch boxes contain the same nutritional values as a school dinner.

The NHS states that a balanced packed lunch should contain:

  • Starchy foods: These are bread, rice, potatoes, pasta and others (approx. 1/3 of lunch)
  • Protein foods: These are meat, fish, eggs, beans, cheese etc
  • A dairy item: This could be cheese or a yoghurt
  • Vegetables or salad:  This could be carrot batons, celery sticks, cucumber etc
  • A piece of fruit:  This could be a banana, satsuma, apples, grapes, tomatoes etc

We recommend this is accompanied by a drink of water, milk, fruit juice or squash. No fizzy or energy drinks are permitted.

We do allow children to bring in crisps, small cakes and biscuit bars such as Kit Kats, but ask that these are limited to an occasional treat. No sweets or chocolate bars are allowed.

Please remember that Tany's Dell is a nut free school.
