Security and Safety
A 2.4 metre fence was erected along the east, north and west boundaries and a 1.8 metre fence was erected from the west wing entrance from Saffron Class along to the old allotments on the west boundary. There is a schedule of maintenance to keep the fence secure. The perimeter is inspected regularly for damage and any trees that are encroaching and damaging the fence are cut back and the fence is repaired where needed. A small wooden fence has been erected along the path leading from the west wing gate to the playground to keep that area safe for children. A similar fence was erected around the pond in the west wing area and a steel mesh cover was fitted over the pond.
Door entry systems
All of the external doors are now held shut electronically. The doors are linked to the new fire alarm system so that evacuation is unimpeded.
Perimeter lighting and CCTV
The CCTV system has been proven to be useful on more than one occasion in the past and the lighting around the perimeter of the building is a good deterrent to would be late night visitors! Everything that happens in and around Tany's dell school is monitored and recorded!
The intruder alarm system that is on site is monitored professionally and linked to a monitoring company and the police. This is serviced and updated regularly to ensure it is working correctly. The CCTV system was expanded to keep up with expansion projects.
The fire alarm system at Tany's dell school was replaced in 2012 and is also linked to a monitoring company. It is tested every week by the Site Manager and by a registered company who tests to the BS 5838-1:2013. The system includes automatic door closers which can hold various doors open throughout the building but release the door to allow it to close if the alarm system is activated.
Regular health and safety inspections take place here. The Site Manager ensures that H&S inspections on a local level are performed regularly and this involves the current Chair of Governors. Anything that is noticed on these inspections is written up and prioritised for action. The report is also tabled at the next premises committee meeting.
